This week you are to respond to the play “Red Writing Hood.”  Through your one-page response (at least), you are to answer thoroughly each of the following questions (write the question and then below it, write your answer):

a.)What conclusion(s) can you draw about Red Riding Hood from her willingness to change the script of well-known tales and rhymes?

b.)                    What did you think about Red Riding Hood and her changing the script?  Did the changes make the new versions of the story better or worse?  How so?

c.)How well did you enjoy reading the play and why?

Journals

 Second semester Journals:
This week you are writing a nonfictional story about an adventurous trip that you have been on at some point in your life.  You are to describe in detail the events that led up to the trip (where did you go and why did you go there?), the trip you took and the means of transportation, your expectations beforehand, any surprises you found during your trip, and the coming home part of the trip.  End your story with some sort of thought/discovery you made while on your trip.  Be sure to describe the setting, plot, any conflicts that occurred, and any solutions to the problems described.  Your story should be at least 1 page in length.  I will let a few of you read aloud your stories to the class on Tuesday (when it is due).

Second semester journal
This week you are writing a fictional, mystery story.  Your job is to describe in detail the characters, setting, plot, conflict, resolution, and solution to your story.  Your story should also be suspenseful and needs to be at least 1 page in length.  Be creative and add emotion to the events that you describe.  I will let a few of you read aloud your stories to the class on Friday.

Choose 1 topic from those listed below:

I awoke one morning to find myself invisible to the world!  Here’s what happened that day…
                                                                  Or
I woke up one night to the sound of a soft, tinkling bell.  I looked up and saw…
                                                                  Or
The phone rang just as I walked in the door from school that fateful Tuesday afternoon.  I picked up the phone, listened to the voice on the line, and began to cry.  Here’s what happened…

More journals:

This week’s journal is on whether or not you think school uniforms should be required at Creek View Elementary.  School uniforms could mean simply kaki pants/skirt and a plain colored top, or they could be a “real” uniform embroidered with Creek View’s name on it and defined pants/skirt, like those who wear one at most private schools.

No matter your definition of a uniform, you are to write a letter to the Creek View administration convincing them of your position on Creek View having school uniforms.  Your letter needs to include your clear position on the issue and at least 3 well-developed reasons for why you think we should/should not have uniforms. Each reason should be in a separate paragraph.  Be sure to include facts in your letter and experiences/examples that would convince the administration to have/not to have uniforms.
Here is the format for your letter:

Dear Mr. Rogers, Ms. Payne-Bland, & Mrs. Swanson

1st paragraph – background about uniforms, your opinion on school uniforms

2nd paragraph – reason 1 with an example

3rd paragraph – reason 2 with an example

4th paragraph – reason 3 with an example

5th paragraph – closing – restate your position and reasons.  Add any remaining thoughts that would thoroughly convince the administration about uniforms.
